The Tyche of Antioch of Eutychides, a pupil of Lysippus
Lot 3093
LEVANTINE REGION. Uncertain, circa 1st to 3rd centuries AD. Dedicatory Plaquette (Lead, 20x42 mm, 9.18 g). The Tyche of Antioch, turreted and veiled, seated facing on rock; to upper left and right, two Nikai presenting wreaths; to lower left, palm frond; below Tyche, river-god Orontes facing, head to right. Rev. Blank except for decorative pellet-in-annulets. A lovely piece of attractive style. Scuff on Tyche's face and with a flan fault, otherwise, good very fine.

From a European collection, acquired before 2021.

This is likely a dedicatory plaquette connected to the cult of the Tyche of Antioch, whose famous cult statue was the work of the sculptor Eutychides, a pupil of Lysippus
